ABOUT THE FISH
Black Bream
Black bream is an up and coming fish in the UK. Its distinctive flavour is delicious, and its firm white flesh makes it an excellent alternative to cod or haddock in seafood dishes.
Keep an eye out at your local Jersey fishmonger – when black bream is landed, it usually doesn’t hang around for very long!
LOW-IMPACT CATCH METHODS
Rod and Line
Black Bream is mostly caught by rod and line in Jersey. Line caught fish are usually an excellent choice when trying to make sure your fish are caught in a low-impact way, and black bream is no exception.
PREPARATION ADVICE
How to cook
Black bream is an up and coming fish in the UK. Its distinctive flavour is delicious, and its firm white flesh makes it an excellent alternative to cod or haddock in seafood dishes. The firmness of the flesh makes black bream a very versatile fish – it can be grilled, steamed, baked, or pan-fried whole.
Given that they share a similar season, black bream is often served alongside mussels, and with sides of asparagus or fresh Jersey Royals.
